WMS (warehouse management system)

Software that runs warehouse operations: inventory locations, receiving, picking, packing and shipping.

A warehouse management system (WMS) tracks inventory by location inside a warehouse and directs the work of moving it: receiving, putaway, replenishment, picking, packing and shipping.

A WMS typically connects to the order source and to shipping software or carrier APIs, so packed orders receive labels and tracking numbers automatically. 3PLs often give their clients access to their WMS for inventory and order visibility.
