GlossaryTracking and integration
Tracking number
A unique code a carrier assigns to a shipment so it can be scanned and followed from pickup to delivery.
A tracking number is the unique identifier for a package in a carrier's network. It appears as a barcode on the shipping label and is scanned at each step, from acceptance through sorting to delivery.
Each carrier uses its own format. Sellers share the tracking number with customers in shipping confirmation emails or a tracking page, and use tracking data to spot delays and delivery exceptions.
