Tariff
A government schedule of duty rates on imported goods, or an additional duty imposed on specific products or countries.
A tariff is a tax a government places on imported goods. The word is used in two ways: for the full schedule of duty rates (such as the Harmonized Tariff Schedule) and for specific additional duties placed on certain products or countries of origin.
Additional tariffs are set by trade policy and can change quickly, so the rate on a product can differ depending on where it was made, even when the HTS code is the same. Sellers importing into the U.S. should check current rates for their products and origins rather than relying on old figures.
