Signature confirmation

A delivery option that requires someone to sign for a package, adding proof of delivery and reducing theft.

Signature confirmation requires the carrier to obtain a signature when the package is delivered. Carriers offer several levels, such as direct signature (anyone at the address), indirect signature (a neighbor or a signed release may be allowed) and adult signature (a recipient of legal age with ID).

It is used for high-value orders, to reduce fraud and porch theft, and is legally required for some products, such as alcohol. Signature services cost extra and can add redelivery attempts if no one is home.
