Proof of delivery (POD)

A carrier record that a package was delivered, with date, time and location, and sometimes a signature or photo.

Proof of delivery (POD) is the evidence a carrier provides that a shipment reached its destination. It usually includes the delivery date, time and location, and depending on the service, the recipient's name, a signature, a photo or GPS coordinates.

Sellers use POD to resolve "item not received" claims and payment chargebacks. For high-value orders, adding signature confirmation produces stronger proof than a doorstep scan alone. In freight, the signed delivery receipt or bill of lading serves as POD.
