Middle mile

The linehaul portion of a shipment between hubs, such as warehouse to sort center or export hub to destination country.

The middle mile is the movement of goods between facilities, after first-mile collection and before last-mile delivery. Examples include trucks between a warehouse and a regional sort center, or air or ocean transport between countries.

Middle-mile moves are usually consolidated, carrying many parcels or pallets at once, which is where much of the cost efficiency in a shipping network comes from.
