LTL (less than truckload)
A freight service that moves palletized shipments too large for parcel but too small to fill a truck, sharing trailer space.
Less than truckload (LTL) shipping moves freight that is larger than parcel carriers accept but does not fill a full trailer, usually one to several pallets. LTL carriers combine shipments from many customers on one truck and route them through terminals.
LTL pricing depends on weight, distance, freight class and accessorial services such as liftgate or residential delivery. Each shipment travels on a bill of lading.
LTL is commonly used to send inventory to warehouses, 3PLs and marketplace fulfillment centers.
