Last mile
The final leg of delivery, from a local carrier facility to the customer's door.
The last mile is the final step of a shipment, from the local delivery station or post office to the recipient. It is often the most expensive part of parcel delivery per package, because drivers make many individual stops.
Residential surcharges, delivery area surcharges and delivery exceptions mostly arise in the last mile. Cross-border shipments are often handed to a domestic carrier in the destination country for last-mile delivery.
