ITN (Internal Transaction Number)

The confirmation number the Automated Export System returns when an EEI filing is accepted, shown on export documents as proof.

An Internal Transaction Number (ITN) is issued by the Automated Export System when Electronic Export Information is accepted. It begins with the letter X followed by digits.

The ITN is printed on the commercial invoice or air waybill, or passed to the carrier electronically, to prove the export was filed. Carriers will not move a shipment that requires EEI without it. Shipments that are exempt from EEI show an exemption citation instead.
