HTS code
The 10-digit Harmonized Tariff Schedule number that classifies goods imported into the United States and sets their duty rate.
The Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) is the U.S. import classification, published by the U.S. International Trade Commission. An HTS code has 10 digits: the first six follow the international HS code and the last four are U.S. specific.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) uses the HTS code to determine the duty rate, any additional tariffs, and whether other agencies need to review the shipment. Importers are legally responsible for classifying their goods correctly.
For sellers shipping into the U.S., an accurate HTS code on the commercial invoice helps clearance go smoothly and keeps the landed cost estimate close to the final bill.
