GlossaryFulfillment
Fulfillment center
A warehouse built to process customer orders quickly, from storing inventory to picking, packing and shipping.
A fulfillment center is a warehouse focused on getting individual orders out the door rather than storing goods for long periods. It receives inventory, stores it in pickable locations, and picks, packs and ships orders, usually directly to consumers.
Fulfillment centers can be run by a brand, a 3PL or a marketplace. Placing inventory in several fulfillment centers shortens the distance to customers, which lowers shipping zones and transit times.
