Drayage

Short-distance trucking of shipping containers, typically between a port or rail yard and a nearby warehouse.

Drayage is the short-haul movement of containers by truck, most often from a seaport or rail terminal to a warehouse, container freight station or distribution center, and back again with the empty container.

Drayage is a key link between ocean freight and inland distribution. Delays in picking up containers can lead to storage and equipment charges from the port or carrier, so timing drayage with customs release matters.
