Denied party screening

Checking buyers, recipients and partners against government lists of sanctioned or restricted parties before shipping.

Denied party screening (also called restricted party screening) compares the names and addresses on an order against government lists of people and organizations that exporters may not deal with, or may only deal with under a license.

In the U.S., relevant lists include the Treasury Department's Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list, the Commerce Department's Entity List and Denied Persons List, and others. The government publishes a Consolidated Screening List that combines several of them.

Shipping to a listed party can bring serious penalties even for small orders, so exporters typically screen automatically at order or label time.
