Certificate of origin
A document certifying the country where goods were produced, used to qualify for trade agreement rates or meet import rules.
A certificate of origin states where the goods in a shipment were made. Some destination countries require one for certain products, and it is often needed to claim a lower duty rate under a free trade agreement.
There are two broad types. Preferential certificates support a claim under a trade agreement such as USMCA, which uses a certification of origin with required data elements rather than a fixed form. Non-preferential certificates simply confirm origin and are often issued or stamped by a chamber of commerce.
