Additional handling
A surcharge for packages that are heavy, long, oddly shaped or not fully enclosed in corrugated cardboard.
An additional handling surcharge applies when a package cannot move smoothly through a carrier's automated sorting systems. Triggers include exceeding weight or length thresholds, cylindrical or irregular shapes, and packaging that is not fully enclosed in corrugated cardboard, such as wood, metal or plastic cases.
Packages that go further past size and weight limits fall into higher oversize or large-package categories with larger fees. Choosing standard boxes and measuring correctly helps avoid these charges.
