Accessorial charges

Fees for services or conditions beyond standard pickup and delivery, such as residential delivery, liftgates or address corrections.

Accessorial charges, or accessorials, are fees added to the base shipping rate for extra services or special conditions. In parcel shipping, common examples are residential delivery, delivery area surcharges, additional handling, address correction and signature options.

In LTL freight, accessorials include liftgate service, inside delivery, limited access locations, appointment delivery and residential delivery.

Accessorials are often where shipping invoices differ most from quotes. Accurate addresses, package data and service choices at label time reduce unexpected ones.
