the challenge
Before ExperShip.
This business sends limited-edition fantasy books and collectible boxes to subscribers in the U.S. and abroad. Its shipping does not arrive in a steady stream: most of the month is quiet, then a release goes out and thousands of boxes have to ship within a few days.
Before ExperShip, release week meant long shifts. Labels were bought in small batches across different carrier tools, and tracking lived in three places, so answering "where is my box?" meant checking each one.
International subscribers added another layer. Every box mixes a book with collectibles such as art prints, pins or bookmarks, and each needs a clear, consistent customs description. When descriptions varied from box to box, some parcels were held, and subscribers outside the U.S. waited longer for a release everyone was already talking about online.

operational impact
Day to day.
Release week is now a matter of running batches rather than buying labels box by box. Destination rules choose the service for each country, and the customs description is the same on every box of the same release.
Support answers tracking questions from one screen. The team ships larger releases without adding temporary staff in proportion, and international subscribers get their boxes closer to the same time as everyone else.
