usps ยท rules
Things to know before you ship with USPS.
Carrier rules that affect what you pay and where you can deliver. Exact fees and surcharges change, so check the current USPS rate guide for amounts.
- 01
Dimensional weight applies to Priority Mail and Ground Advantage packages larger than one cubic foot. Smaller boxes are priced on actual weight.
- 02
The maximum weight is 70 lb, and size limits are set by length plus girth, so very large boxes may need UPS or FedEx.
- 03
Nonstandard fees can apply to long or oversized packages, so measure accurately before you buy a label.
- 04
Flat Rate boxes and envelopes cost the same to any U.S. address up to 70 lb, which suits heavy items in small boxes.
- 05
International USPS shipments need a customs declaration, and the destination country's post handles final delivery and tracking updates.
